But the open world and its RPG mechanics. I've been saying forever that even a lot of single player games could benefit from paddles or rear buttons, not just competitive shooters, and Forspoken is another example of this.Īpart from control-woes, I thought the gameplay, mainly traversal and combat, is pretty great once I adjusted the button mapping. It's also weird that you constantly need circle for parcour stuff, which requires you to take your thumb off the right stick for camera control. If I'm not alone with this I'm afraid the game's combat will leave a bad impression on a lot of players trying either the demo or the full game. It makes much more sense to me and makes combat much better. I switched both triggers with the bumpers, so that R1 is now attack and R2 is the ability wheel. Maybe they should have looked at Returnal or just don't use it. They tried somethin with the PS5's adaptive trigger there, but I don't see what they are going for there, because the resistance threshold is pretty low (meaning the travel of the trigger until resistance starts is high) but you don't even need to pull the trigger that low for anything. You also need to hold it for a charged attack, which also feels very mushy on a trigger. You need to mash attack for a basic attack string, this obviously feels awful with a loose trigger button. I played the demo yesterday for the first time, it was the patched version.ĭid anybody else think that mapping the standard attack to R2 (and special ability to L2) and the attack wheel to R1 (L1 for specials) is a pretty dumb choice? Just wait till the reviews, you'll see then what I mean. I will consistently push for more innovations and freshness, and even if the game can't innovate that's fine, just push your familiar experience to the highest quality possible which forspoken is NOT doing. I'm not in ''every forspoken thread'' i've just commented a few times, Seeing big AAA games with severe flaws and uninspired in many aspects is a no go for me. If we're not harsh enough as consumers devs will never listen. The cinematics are extremely TERRIBLE at times, this is completely unacceptable for a AAA product in 2023, I genuinely don't get how people let these games fly. Story and world seems intriguing on paper but the dialogue is GOD awful. ''instant loading'' was created by Forspoken? What has a game focused on a ''POC'' got to do with the quality of the game? The ''parkour'' is a complete gimmick, it feels extremely slow and meh unless they updated it for the final version it felt AWFUL in the demo. What new ''ideas and innovations''? The ''new type of interface'' is god awful and clunky to navigate.
